San Francisco Design Week

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

This week (June 15-21) is SF’s Design Week! Declared by Mayor Gavin Newsom as “Design Makes a Difference Week,” SF’s Design Week is all about reaching out to design lovers throughout the Bay Area in order to raise awareness of the impact design has in the SF Bay Area.

Hopefully I’ll get a chance to check out at least one of this weeks events. I’m thinking about checking out Sunday’s Indie Mart or possibly Shecky’s Girls Night Out, though, I think both could be a dangerous move considering I have a shopping addiction. Anyhow, if you’re in the Bay Area and you love design, check out the full line up of this weeks events here.

Skinny Ships: Richard Perez

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

A little while back I came across the images below on OhJoy! and was immediately head over heels for who ever had created these prints. They were just so up my alley!

By chance, I was perusing through Twitter last night when I came across a Twitter Icon that caught my eye. It simply said, “Hello There.” So I thought, “Um, hi!” *click* And to my surprise, I finally figured out who made these awesome prints! It’s the awesome work of San Francisco based graphic designer and illustrator Richard Perez. Upon some further research, it seems that his work has made the blog rounds quite a bit but I couldn’t help but show some of my favorite prints from a fellow Bay Area Latino. (Originally from LA, just like me! And I agree with Richard regarding his thoughts on the Bay Area Mexican Food. No offense of course.) Check out some of my favorite Richard Perez projects:

There’s way too much great stuff to show here. To check out more of Richard’s work, click here to check out his flickr page. I also recommed reading about his very cool project entitled “Aqui.” Great work Richard! This little LAMA is a big BIG fan!

An Important Message for the Day

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Have you ever had one of those days where you just can’t seem to get a single thing done? The kind of day where the most productive thing you did was get out of bed? I have. In fact, I’ve had that problem all week long! I’ve managed to get the basics done and orders are being shipped out on schedule but otherwise, I have found it entirely impossible to make any real progress on some new projects I’m working on or manage to put the finishing touches on some that just need to end. What do you do when you just can’t seem to get your act together no matter how hard you try?

Tomorrow is a new day.

thanks to print liberation for the inspiration.

I WANT these… I NEED these… yes, I would ROCK these. They look like LAMA blue to me.

Thank you El Beso for sharing this lovely image and making me oh so jealous!

Temescal Street Fair

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Yesterday was North Oakland’s annual Temescal Street Fair. I decided to head over with a group of friends to check out the local flavor, get some good eats, bob my head to the live music playing and have an overall fun in the sun type of day. Telegraph Ave. was packed with people and awesome vendors! It really got me thinking, why did I not set up a LAMA booth! Urgh! Well, next year for sure. I would love to be out there with my fellow Oakland business owners.

Below are a few snap shops of yesterday’s event. Yes, that shaggy little dog in a bag is Miles. He needs a haircut pronto! Enjoy!
