The Process of Jessie D’Angelo

Visiting a few rug manufacturers on my last trip to Ecuador, I was amazed at the process of taking alpaca wool, dying it, cleaning it and creating beautiful rugs. This morning I received an email from the studio of designer Jessie D’Angelo showing the stages her rugs go through until they become heaven under your feet.

Hand tufted in alpaca or sheep wool, this process takes 6-10 weeks to complete. I’m actually amazed it doesn’t take longer! Absolutely gorgeous Jessie! Thanks for sharing your process with us. To check out one of our favorite handmade Jessie D’Angelo pillows, click here.

Have you ever been to India? I was there in the fall last year and loved visiting the textile villages where they dyed and processed fibres for silk fabrics. It was really cool to see the whole process an to watch someone make a rug by hand and to weave the patterns in the fabric. Definitely something we take for granted.

I’ve never been to India but I’ve heard they have the most amazing textile villages. I’m dying to go! I’ve seen rugs made by hand in Ecuador and Peru but I’m sure India would be a real treat. I agree, definitely something we take for granted.
