The Resolve Project

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

I’m super sick today. I have strep throat. Has anyone ever had that? It hurts! My goal today is not to work. I figure I can get back to work a lot faster if I just stay down for a day and rest. At least that’s what I’m trying to convince myself of. Easier said than done. Last night when I was starting to feel sick but refusing to give in, I came across The Resolve Project. Artist Chris Streger came up with the project while he was discussing New Years resolutions with his girlfriend. Wanting a daily (and stylish) reminder of all the resolutions he wanted to keep in mind, Chris has invited other artist to create graphic resolutions to upload on your as your iphone wallpaper. Brilliant!

Submissions are open through this week if you would like to design one yourself. I should design one with my own resolution, “Stay Down When You’re Sick.”  I think I’m going to go take my own advice now…

Word Lens

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Word Lens is an amazing iPhone application that my fiance recently showed me. I was a little blown away the first time I watched the video below. It looks like the sort of gadget you would have seen in a movie like Back to the Future. I think my exact words were, “whoa! The future is such an amazing place!” I know, I’m such a nerd about these things. Anyhow, I could go on and on explaining exactly what Word Lens is but, I’ll let the video explain for me. If you or anyone you know is traveling to a Spanish speaking country, download this app! For now, the app only translates Spanish but more languages will likely be available soon. Hopefully they’ll release Portuguese next. I could REALLY use this the next time I’m in Brazil.

Monday Motivation: Feeling Loved

Monday, December 6th, 2010

After my big party weekend, I had a feeling this particular Monday would come too soon. I was absolutely correct. In fact, as I’m writing this, I just overheard my fiance in the background say, “I’ve never been so tired in my life.” Good thing I’m not the only one. Just about the only thing bringing me to work and keeping me going today is the immense amount of residual love I’m feeling from this weekend’s birthday festivities. Everyone showed up looking fantastic, friends flew in from out of town, my fiance gave me the most wonderful toast, my piano was stacked with beautiful gifts, late nighters sang their hearts out at karaoke, and I had the most incredible birthday ever! The overwhelming feeling of love I feel is stronger than any cup of coffee I could have had this morning. That’s saying a lot considering I make one strong cup of coffee!

So even though I’m feeling like a semi-truck ran me over a few times, stop, reversed, and ran me over a few more times, I feel fabulous! Today…

Thanks to my loyal LAMA readers for indulging all of my party talk. Back to regular posting tomorrow!

Miles Cakes

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

The other day, while I was sourcing photos from You Are My Fave Parties, I came across the hilarious photo below. I’m guessing the event was either  a baby shower or a first birthday… who knows. After an initial giggle, my wheels began to turn and I thought, “Miles Cakes!”

Tomorrow I’m going to be baking a bunch of red velvet cupcakes (with pink frosting) for my birthday party on Saturday. Using this simple and brilliant idea, I’ve come up with Miles cakes. I have a feeling my guests are going to get a big kick out of this cute and quirky party element. Everyone knows that Miles is the sweetest thing in my life, so why not throw his face on a cupcake?

Using this photo of Miles taken on our vacation to Lake Tahoe last summer, and this random party hat I google image searched, I decided to have a little fun with photoshop.

By cutting out Miles’ face, rotating it a bit, and sizing the party hat until it fit him perfectly, I made my very own Miles cupcake toppers. Tomorrow I’m going to print them out on heavy card stock, cut them out, glue them to toothpicks or cocktail picks and POOF… Miles Cakes!

I can’t wait to tackle this fun project and see the looks on my friend’s faces when they bite into a Miles Cake!

Get Dressed!

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

One of my favorite things to do is get dressed up. I love it! I love picking out the perfect outfit and accessories, I love styling my hair, I love spending an extra long time doing my makeup, and I love how I feel when I’m ready to step out for the evening. Being the quintessential girl that I am, my go to party look generally revolves around a fabulous dress. Dresses are my favorite! I often envision owning a massive walk-in closet just for my dresses with a big pink neon sign over the entrance that reads “Get Dressed!” Did I mention I have an over-active imagination? Half way through party week here at LAMA, I thought I would share some of my favorite fab dresses. I have a whole pin-board dedicated to the subject that I encourage you to check out. There you’ll find links to all the dresses you see below. I hope they inspire you to get dressed!

Party Inspiration

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

As I mentioned yesterday, this week is all about parties! Especially because today happens to be my wonderful fiance’s birthday! (Happy Birthday my love *muah*) As someone who loves parties as much as I do, I’m constantly on the search for festive inspiration. I like to bookmark my favorite party shots under parties I will have someday. One of my favorite go to sources for pictorial ideas is You Are My Fave Parties. I’ve probably planned at least a hundred different events based on the ideas this site has sparked. Check out some of my favorite photos below.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRED!! LOTS OF LOVE FROM MILES AND ME!

Motivation Monday: Party Countdown!

Monday, November 29th, 2010

After taking a few days off to celebrate Thanksgiving in my native SoCal, I thought today was going to feel like one of those impossible Mondays. Instead, I’ve got a little pep in my step and I am ready to kick some ass this week! Why am I feeling so large and in charge? At the end of this week, I’m celebrating my birthday for the first time in four years and I’m pretty excited about it. You see, I’m one of those unfortunate Christmas babies. Anyone born during the week of Christmas can completely relate. It’s not the best time to have been born. As a retailer for the past couple of years, I have spent my birthday packaging and shipping out orders. While I’m still going to spend my actual birthday working, I’ve decided to throw a party for myself this weekend. It’s a big year for me… I’m turning 30! And I feel like I owe it to myself to:

To keep up the positive energy, this week I’m going to be blogging about all things party related. My favorite party gear, party eats and drinks, and of course, international fiestas! It’s a 30th Birthday Party Countdown for this little LAMA mama!

Love the illustration above? It’s by my favorite illustrator, the talented Kris Atomic.

A New Project

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

Lately I have been mentioning that I’m working on developing new outlets for myself to express the things I love in ways that are meaningful to myself. LAMA, which will always be my first love, has been a great way for me to help others share who they are with an audience they may not have been able to reach. My latest project is a bit of a selfish endeavor and something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I’ve been a fan of design blogs for years now and I’ve finally decided to start one of my own based on two of my greatest passions, fashion and dogs! I have decide to name the blog after Miles, my best friend, inspiration, and muse. I’m hoping to get the blog up in the next two weeks, but I couldn’t help sharing a sneak peek here today. I hope everyone enjoys Miles to Style as much as I do!

Stay tuned…
