Over the weekend I finally had the opportunity to sit down and check out a new e-zine I’ve been dying to take a look at called Matchbook Mag: the field guide to a charmed life. I have to say, it’s promising title did not disappoint. One of the articles I was most excited to come across in Matchbook was their beautifully well-done travel guide on Peru. As an avid traveller, I like to check out a lot of destination publications and, until recently, I’ve often been disappointed at the lack of coverage many of South America’s countries get. It’s been exciting for me to see South America’s popularity growing as a go-to travel destination, particularly cities like Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo. It was certainly refreshing to see such a lovely story about Peru and I highly recommend you check it out, along with the rest of this stunning new publication.

Andrea Posada is a multitalented Colombian artist who’s incredible technique can be seen in her illustrative work as well as her photography. Initially I was drawn to Andrea’s bright and imaginative illustration’s, but upon discovering her photography, I can’t decide which I love more! I don’t normally do this, but I absolutely have to post on both. First up is Andrea’s inspired photography shot across Mexico, Bolivia, Peru, Venezuela, Argentina, and Colombia. The colors and layouts of her shots are simply breathtaking.

Alqo Wasi, which means “dog home” in Quechua, is an incredible dog-wear company I discovered last night while perusing the internet for cool dog products. Alqo Wasi creates beautiful dog garments created in native Peruvian communities. Founder Patricia Queirolo came up with idea while traveling through the Peruvian Andes. While attempting to come up with a business idea for her university thesis, she became inspired by the incredible Andean landscape outside of her bus window. Keeping in mind all that she loved and was inspired by (her two pampered dogs and her love for Peruvian culture), she created Alqo Wasi.

Alqo Wasi’s products are produced on traditional weaving looms from alpaca and fine cotton native to Peru. I love the traditional Peruvian patterns and colors and how they work on a modern product like dog clothing. I would LOVE to add some of these pieces to the LAMA collection! I was recently introduced by the incredible Sara Jensen of Lost Bird Found to the most stunning blog belonging to Riley, an incredibly talented textile designer, ceramicist, and photographer. Roe is full of Riley’s gorgeous photography which has the most tactile quality to it. I just want to reach out and grab her work. I especially LOVE her gorgeous photography from Peru. It really takes me back to my own time in South America, walking around the Andes trying to snap shots of the gorgeous Alpaca. Oh, to be there again…
