São Paulo’s Sandal Monkey

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Last week, Dutch artist Florentjin Hofman unveiled his latest sculpture entitled Fat Monkey, a sculpture in São Paulo constructed from thousands of sandals. No, they weren’t Havaianas, though that would have been an incredible piece of marketing for the famous Brazilian sandal brand. They were, however, bright and colorful and made for one incredibly cool fat monkey.

Incidentally, I picked up this information via Pinterest’s “This Week In Pinterest” weekly emails. Every week, I look forward to the fun and interesting facts that Pinterest co-founder Ben Silbermann shares. I also get pretty jazzed to see my own weekly Pinterest stats. Thanks Ben! Keep the awesome emails coming!

Kate Spade Ventures into South America

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

Last month, Kate Spade opened it’s first ever store in South America. With it’s “flourishing fashion scene and colorful culture,” Sao Paulo was the natural choice to open the Brazilian flagship shop. I am always impressed by Kate Spade’s retail design, but I have to say, this new store in Brazil takes the cake! Or in Kate Spade world, the pink frosted cupcake with rainbow colored sprinkles and a pinwheel on top.

To announce their big arrival, Kate Spade stocked 10,000 pinwheels into pushcarts all over the city, handing them out to everyone that passed by and planting a few in unexpected places. Inside,  keeping with their typically fresh and creative retail design, the Sao Paulo store will feature “a minibar where guests can perch atop pink barstools and enjoy a caipirinha or toast the town with a glass of champagne.”

With more stores planned in the future, Kate Spade is happy to report that “things are just heating up for South America.” Personally, I think everything down South has been muy caliente for a while! Be sure and visit Kate Spade for more incredible photos from this event.

LAMA in Imagine Magazine from Brazil

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Recently, Imagine Magazine based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, interviewed the amazing Calu Fontes (one of my favorite artists and someone I’m proud to work with at LAMA). Aside from a great write-up about her work, Calu was able to curate a spread of her favorite products from Brazil and beyond. I was so excited to see that among her favorite product picks was one of LAMA’s Vintage Wallpaper Notebook’s from Argentinean designer Mercedes Hernaez! Thank you Calu and Imagine Magazine for the mention! (If only I could read Portuguese!)
